Concerning my husband: 62 years, has hypopituitarism since 5 years ago. after adenoma. now after business trip to Egypt(we live in Finland) got diarrea with high fever up to 40,5 degrees celsius.tries to drink a lot, takes double dozes of cortison. should we now take him to hospital for cortison injections and liquid treatment? rgds a worried wife
If you are having hypopituitarism you should take 2-3 times the dose of cortisone in case of severe illness.
If I were your treating doctor I would suggest you to increase the cortisone dose and increase fluid and salt intake -If you are still feeling tired or giddy I would suggest you to go to near by hospital and take steroid injections. If you are better you can continue increased dose steroids for 2-3 days and then taper it to your regular dose.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
