Suggest Treatment For Hydronephrosis

I have mild hydronephrosis. My VA Women s Health doctor writes in my Med Record, Insignificant. Is she a complete nut or what? I want it gone. Obstructions via calculi, infection, restricted ureter is NOT insignificant. When GFR is compromised, that s not insignificant. I am going to see a urologist on 9 Aug 2016 at the same VA. I only pray they do NOT give her my test results to read. I want a specialist who has a clue. I am a 56 year old post menopausal female. I am 5 7 and weigh 170lbs. I drink one cup of coffee a day and am on Vitamin D supplements. What is my recourse for hydronephrosis? I want right renal normalcy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Hydronephrosis if present in one kidney needs evaluation to rule out any acute obstruction secondary to calculus or infection.

One possibility is to do X-ray KUB as it can pick any calculus which isn't visible in ultrasound KUB. If that is unremarkable CT scan KUB is more sensitive to detect such. Meanwhile hydration may be kept good.

If any signs of pelvic dilation, renal functions should be assessed alongside urinalysis to look for any signs of infection. A detailed urologist review is a must in such cases.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
