Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Severe Toothache

My husband has a fever of 101, he had almost convulsive shivering; he is not shivering now and still has high fever. He took two Amoxicillins, about 6 Excedrins today, because he had a severe toothache. I am wondering if the fever is due to the amount of OTC drugs he took (the Amoxicillin was to try and kill any infection in the tooth). He took a very hot shower and still had shivering; shivering is calm but still has fever of 101.

hello and welcome to HCM forum,

First I would like to appreciate you for taking time out to write to us, Being a Dental practitioner I would like you to know that tooth ache as described in your query seems to be quite severe, which can be from infection in the tooth itself.
Fever, weakness are one of the few symptoms which accompany tooth infections. So kindly be informed that it is the other way around, fever is from a tooth infection in this case. But in order to confirm the diagnosis it is really important for you to make your husband visit a dentist soon.

Taking over the counter painkillers only provide temporary pain relief, until the cause of tooth infection is taken care of pain can recur. Also please advise your husband not to overdose painkillers as they come with serious side effects.

I hope my answer was helpful
I wish you and your husband good health,
feel free to write back,

take care,
regards,
