Suggest Treatment For High Fever After Vaginal Hysterectomy
Hi Dr. Rynne. I feel very good when my temperature stays 96 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit. When it goes close to 98 I start feeling very sick as if I have very high fever. Now home after vaginal hysterectomy, having a temp of 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit (feeling as if I have very high fever and also feeling very uncomfortable). At the time of discharge instructions were to call the surgeons office if I develop a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit In this situation I can not get medical attention. How can I deal with this problem? Regards Surinder
The most common postoperative complications of vaginal hysterectomy is fever. Fever after vaginal hysterectomy, may result from some underlying health issues like infection on operative site such as vaginal cuff cellulitis, pelvic abscess or any wound; infection remote from the operative site such as pneumonia or urinary tract infection; or fever may be unexplained, unrelated and resolved without consequence. Treatment depends on causes. In case of abscess, surgical drainage is the treatment of choice. In case of any infections, broad spectrum antibiotics may be needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician,
