Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My step=father is 89 years old with a history of high cholesterol. He takes Proscar for his prostate and Lipitor to manage his cholesterol. He also takes coumadin to keep his blood thinned (he has numerous stents). He has a recent history of bloody urine which led to a lot of extra monitoring of his coumadin dosing. Recently his blood sugar has been elevated and doctor wants to put him on Tradjenta. He doesn t want to take it because of all of the listed side effects (like everything else). I am curious if Tradjenta is best choice because of other factors in his medical history compared to any of the other Type 2 diabetes drugs.
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that Tradjenta is a good anti-diabetes drug but should be considered again if you have high triglycerides as Tradjenta has been documented to cause Hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia.
To manage high cholesterol level dietary modifications, physical activity and medication will helpful. Increase Fibre intake, avoid trans fat, choose whole grain breadsetc. You can also consult with a dietitian for proper diet chart.
Kindly consult with your treating Physician regarding Tradjenta administration.
Hope to have been Helpful.
Kind Regards Dr. Navneet Bansal
