Suggest Treatment For High Bilirubin Levels

My daughter is 30 and had her second child a year ago. Had low platelets and failure to progress so did c section and with incision tore uterus, saved it but should have take out. Bilirubin remains high and platelets continue to be low. Lymphocytes are low. She keeps getting sick. She breast fed until baby 10 months and now weighs 167 at 6 foot tall. What is going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your daughter will need tests to evaluate the liver function like ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, albumin, GGT and a CBC with microscopy to evaluate the number and the size/shape of the cells in the CBC. PT and aPTT are tests to be done to check her coagulation. Hep B and C might be good to be ruled out as well.

If all the tests come out normal and the platelets are over 50000, the bilirubine can be increased in some patients due to a benign condition called guillen barre syndrome and that needs no other investigations or treatments. To say that she has this diagnosis, the rest of the tests have to come out normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
