Suggest Treatment For High BP While On Doxazosin And Amlodipine

I am a 72 year old veteran with chronic kidney disease as a result of high blood pressure. I was involved with the SPRINT blood pressure study for over 2years until the study ended. I was given many different meds to lower my BP below 120. The best combination of drugs for me was Edarbi , Amolodipine, and Doxazosin. Now that the study has ended Medicare has declined my request to fill Edarbi. Question: What is a comparable drug to Edarbi?

Hello,

Edarbi is an Angiotension II receptor blocker. You can take any other angiotension II receptor agonist available like Losartan(Cozaar) or Valsartan(Diovan).

Angiotension II receptor antagonists have side effects like dizziness, hyperkalemia, elevated blood potassium levels or angioedema, localized swelling of tissues. Be careful while taking it.

If you have developed these symptoms then you can talk to your treating doctor & have a change of the medications you have been taking.

Since you have a history of high blood pressure you are suggested to get a cardiac check up done to rule out any developing CAD, to stay on the safer side. get all the investigations done to reduce the chance of CAD or stroke.

In the meantime take a lot of leafy greens, berries, skim milk, yogurt, food cooked in olive oil, stay away from junk food & addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
