Suggest Treatment For Hiatal Hernia Causing Choking While Eating

I occasionally get food stuck in my gullet and can t swallow except to spit up what I ve eaten plus gobs of foam. I might go an hour--or 2 days before it clears up on it s own. No acid is apparent----. I was told hiatal hernia but have no pain--just fear dehydration. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it is related to gastroesophageal reflux though you do not have any burning.

The sensation of food being stuck is one of the possible symptoms and a hiatus hernia worsens that condition.

The use of reflux medication may help. This includes medications such as nexium, prilosec, prevacid , protonix or aciphex.
A prescription may be needed.

I hope this helps
