Suggest Treatment For Herniated Disk Disease And Arthritis

Hi! I wanted to know how to help my husband who have been diagnose with sciatica or with an herniated disk, arthritis, and bone spurs. He has hurt himself by lifting something heavy and it made that area really painful. I took him to the er twice with no relief from the pain, and when he stands on that leg that s has the pain and has to quickly sit or lie back down. I don t know what to do for him because the pain meds are not working that the er has given him. He now is considering surgery, but he needs relief from the pain now! What can he do?

Dear Sir/Madam
I have gone through your query and read your symptoms.
In my opinion, you need to pay attention to certain facts
1 Is this the first episode your husband has had such pain or there has been episodes in the past also, and how many.
2 is he on rest, which means lying down, not sitting not moving. although present doctors do not consider it important, but rest with knee flexed or with lying on one side with knee slightly flexed relaxes the nerve and reduce pain. I would recomend absolute bed rest,
3 which analgesics is he on. Higher analgesics like Tramadol, may be effective but should be added with tab pregabalin, and dose titerated to reduce pain
4 if this does not help with pain, you can get local injection at the site of compression by pain expert, and this leads to early pain control, moreover if he has single level disc, at the same time endoscopic removal can be performed to give long lasting relief
5 keep one thing in mind surgery or not, the chances of recurrence are high if adequate measures like regular exercise and precautions are not followed. so do not be under impression that after surgery all things will be fine
I hope that answers your query. If you want any more clarification, contact me back.
