Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has just been told that he has an infection on his heart valve (said he has vegatation) and that the valve is leaking . Is the only course of treatment a valve replacement? What are the survival rates for this type of surgery? My dad is 78 and has polyartirits (spelling?) and has been on chemo for 6 months due to the fact that his bone marrow not working (does not have leukemia, no cancer cells).
After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that valvular vegetation needs a long treatment starting with antibiotics after that depending on the condition of the valve as if it is leaking then your father might need to go for valve replacement.

Suggest Treatment For Heart Disease
Hello, After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that valvular vegetation needs a long treatment starting with antibiotics after that depending on the condition of the valve as if it is leaking then your father might need to go for valve replacement. It s recommended for you to get an Echocardiography done and consult a cardiologist personally for further management. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
