Suggest Treatment For Headaches, Low Grade Fever

On March 15, I started taking a 5 day course of Tamiflu. I was exposed to the flu 2 days prior. During the first couple days, I had headaches and low grade fever. I didn t lose my appetite. After I completed my Tamiflu, I returned to my doctor because I still felt bad. She prescribed a zpac for bronchitis. She didn t think it was mandatory for me to take it but said to do so if I didn t get better. I waited 5 days and decided to take the antibiotic because I was still feeling fatigued. I finished the antibiotic today and am still fatigued. I am in good physical condition as I have done step aerobics for 30 years, so having no energy is hard to take. How long does it usually take for a 62 yr old adult to recover from flu?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Flu symptoms can cause various symptoms, fever and cough to sore throat, nasal congestion, aches, and chills. But there are ways to feel better.
Prescription antiviral drugs may ease symptoms of the flu when taken shortly after you get sick.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
- Drink up. The flu can leave you dehydrated, especially if have vomiting or diarrhea. So be sure to get enough fluids
- Sip some soup.
-Rest
-Good sleep cycles help the immune system work well, so it’s important to get your full eight hours of sleep each night
-Humidify. Breathing moist air helps ease nasal congestion and sore throat pain.
-Swish and spit. Gargling with salt water helps get rid of the thick mucus that can collect at the back of the throat
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
