Suggest Treatment For Headaches And Indigestion

Hi there! I went to Urgent Care a few days ago with indigestion and chest heaviness; they checked my heart (stethoscope), read my family (no heart disease in young) and evaluated my general state (29, non-smoker, runner, and Whole Foods-junkie) and sent me home with prescriptions for Prilosec and Pepcid. I ve been taking both for two days now but am still having pain in my upper left abdomin (though reduced), heart burn, general tightness and aching in my chest (left side). I ve had 2 bouts of severe headaches/dizziness and one bout of tingling of fingers on my left side. I called the Urgent Care and they said it sounds like anxiety - but the pain/pressure is continuous and not just occurring for 5-10 minutes or after I eat, but all day long. Basically - its been going on for 5 days now... Would you advise going back in for a second examination or opinion?

Hello,

Your symptoms need thorough evaluation. Those who come to my clinic with such symptoms, I recommend taking into consideration your indigestion and dyspepsia, would advise tab. Rabeprazole and tab. Pepcid to be taken before food. I would advise them not to lie down immediately after eating but to remain upright for at least 2 hours after eating.

Any causes of rise in intraabdominal pressure such as chronic cough, straining at stools must be avoided or treated. OMEZ insta is available in sachet form. That is to be mixed in half glass of water and to be drunk in case of severe pain in the left upper abdomen. Even with the above treatment, pain doesn't subside or pain increases then we need to search for other causes by doing an ECG, 2D echo, and upper GI endoscopy if necessary. Please do consult a gastroenterologist once and have a detailed clinical examination and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,,

You are suffering from headache and indigestion. You are on Pepcid and Prilosec. You are suggested to take PPI's for relief. Avoid taking food that takes a long time to get digested. Do not take oily, spicy food, refined flour or trans fat. Avoid red meat and do not take anything that is not well cooked.

To help better digestion, you can take digestives and liver tonics, avoid sedentary lifestyle. Stay active, do regular exercises and walking in the morning and evening. Take boiled food or food cooked in olive oil for a couple of days to get relieve from your symptoms.

Yes, I would recommend you get a re- examination done by a GP to detect any developing liver dysfunction, ulcer (esophageal or peptic), developing CAD(coronary artery disease). Get CBC, urinalysis, LFT's, stress test, echo, ECG, Lipid function tests, required imaging tests done so that the pathology causing the symptoms can be detected and treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
