Suggest Treatment For Headache, Vertigo, Sweating And Nystagmus
A 50-year-old woman is admitted with chief complaints of headache and decreased range of motion in her neck. She also complains of vertigo, hearing loss in one ear, profuse sweating, and uncontrollable eye movements. Her past medical history indicates that she was in a motor vehicle accident three days before her admission. What specific diagnostic examinations would you recommend? Why? What conditions should be ruled out? Why? How would you distinguish between these conditions? What are the possible causes of these symptoms?
* As per my clinical experience, the constellation of symptoms of headache, vertigo, sweating and nystamus in patient with history of head injury indicates various possibilities as
@ cerebral edema
@ subarachnoid or epidural hematoma compressing the underlying structures of the brain
@ changes in csf pressure
@ disturbances with volume of endolymph fluid
@ other electrolyte imbalances
However, a detailed evaluation with an MRI brain is mandatory in this regard to guide further in details.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
