Suggest Treatment For Headache Caused After Drinking Wine

Hi I have a headache for the past 3 days. It started after I drank port wine 3 nights ago. The pain is located on the left side of my head, not directly behind my ear but towards the top left side of my head. It is throbbing and subsides when I take brufen. Today is day 3 and it causes a lot of discomfort while I am at work. What should I do? Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Alcohol contains a chemical called ethanol.
Ethanol's diuretic effects can also quickly dehydrate you, and a headache is just one of many symptoms of dehydration.
In your bloodstream, ethanol can cause headaches through vasodilation. This means that it makes your blood vessel depend which can also cause headache.
I recommend using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen three times per day for relieve.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
