Suggest Treatment For Gout And Fever While On Enoxaparin

My husband is having swelling in his left ankle and it comes and goes. He was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago for the swelling in the ankle, foot and then it moved to his other foot along with other issues. They think it was the gout but when given medicine it did nothing but when he took indomethacin it would get better. It has been good since he got out of the hospital but woke up this morning with swelling and pain again. He has no fever and nothing else is going on. Do you think it could be Pseudogout? He is also getting Enoxaparin a shot everyday for a blood clot. None of his doctors can figure it out. Help

Hi,

Unfortunately, in some cases, it is difficult to know the causative agent of arthritis from the clinical presentation. Monoarthritis can be gout, pseudogout, infectious arthritis, osteoarthritis or hematoma.

To make a definitive diagnosis your husband should have a test called arthrocentesis. The procedure involves inserting a needle into the joint and withdrawal of the joint fluid for microscopic examination. Proper treatment can be given after the definitive diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
