I believe I have onychomycosis at the left edge or side of my right big toenail, for quite a few years. The GP gave me clotrimazole drops, and then the dermatologist gave me ketoconazole cream. Both didn t seem to really help. I ve read that this is usually due to such creams being unable to penetrate into the nail matrix, where the fungus usually hides. This left edge has now become deformed along the sides, bending downwards, like a pincer nail. I ve read on Medline that there are some improved antifungal creams that may penetrate the nail matrix better, such as bifonazole, However, a check of some of the products on the market shows this is usually mixed with urea to soften and debride the nail, which I am afraid might have some adverse effects. Might you have some better suggestions ?
