General & Family Physician 's  Response
Generally respiratory infection in children responds well to amoxycillin. Since your child has not become alright with cefodil suspension I suggest that to try amoxycillin; if no improvement in 48-72 hours of amoxycillin therapy, it is better to add clavulanate also along with amoxycillin. Further the following measures should be also undertaken
1. Give plenty of fluids.
2. Steam to loosen secretions.
3. Saline nasal drops.
4. Elevate head of bed to promote sinus drainage.
If the cough is still persisting inspite of the above methods, it is wise to do the following investigations
1. Examination of blood for oesinophilia.
2. Blood gas analysis to asses the lung function.
3. Evaluation for bronchial asthma by using simple test -speak flow meter.
4. X-ray chest test.
Treatment may be modified based on these investigations.
