Suggest Treatment For Foul Smelling Nasal Drip After Maxillary Sinus Injury

was in a car accident in april that caused broken bones to puncture the left sinus . last week the pain came to a head with tremendous pain and pressure on the left side of my face. after rinsing sinuses with warm salt water, i found a few small pieces of bone like substance that was similar to a wet fingernail in the infectious phlem ..since then, i have been getting a horrible smelling nasal drip mostly when bending forward. i do not have bad breath or feel any swelling other than directly under the left eye. the malixary area recieved quite a bit of an impact. other complications caused but this is one i cannot understand.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain it seems like there have been few small fragments of broken bone chips into the sinus cavity as well as there is infection in sinus causing Sinusitis which is responsible for the symptoms of headache and pressure over the face that you are experiencing..

You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he/she can also advise you to get a PNS view x ray done as well as MRI SCAN if required to rule out the exact condition of the sinus and treat you accordingly..

As of now for symptomatic relief you can take a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation.
Do steam inhalations, use saline nasal sprays, and use a humidifier in your room.
Do not delay consulting the physician as it can further increase the infection and complications..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
