Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a cousin of mine who accidentally consumed acid in childhood and hence got the food pipe damaged / narrowed.
She has to widen the food pipe using a tube every 2 months approx.
Now she is having tough time for matrimony alliance because of this problem.
Is there a permanent solution for this problem? and if yes, what will be time carried out the treatment, and are there any side effects of the treatment?
Hello, I can understand your concern for your cousin's health. 1) Surgery is permanent solution for acid ingestion related food pipe damage. 2) Surgery is major type and little risky. 3) In this surgery, part of small intestine will be taken from stomach and used as food pipe replacement between throat and stomach. 4) Patient need to follow strict precautions before and after surgery for good outcomes. This surgery also require big incision on stomach. 5) Due to younger age, matrimonial issue I would suggest to continue dilatation of food pipe with endoscopy every 2-3 months rather than undergoing surgery due to high risk of complications and young age.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubt, I would be happy to help you. Have a nice day!
