Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I have had flu and tonsillitis for the past week. The past couple of days I have had a very tickly throat and also a numb/painful/blocked right ear. I have tried so many different types of medication etc but nothing is helping. It is really starting to get me down and I have probably had about 4 hours sleep in te past week. Help!!?
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
The painful/blocked right ear is indicating possible otitis (inflammation/infection of right ear) as complication of flu and tonsillitis.
I advise to consult with ENT specialist and get your right ear checked for further evaluations and to decide whether you need ear drops.
For the moment, I advise to: - gargle with warm water and salt - take deep breath by using your nostrils, keep your breath for a while, than exhale by using your mouth. This will help unblocking your right ear. - take antiinflammatory drugs (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc.) to reduce inflammation
Wish fast recovery! Dr.Albana
