Hello! Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. Seizures are a complex clinical manifestation, which can be a result of genetic predisposition, stroke, metabolic disorders such as
hypoglycemia,
head trauma, alcohol withdrawl,
encephalitis etc. Seizures can be of different types, generalized, partial etc
After a seizure radiological examination and EEG are necessary. CT scan is usually realized in the emergency room to reveal or exclude structural condition like hematomas, tumors etc. MRI can be performed later on if the patient continue to have seizures.
After a seizure a
cerebral edema can be detected in CT scan, which may explain the bulging in your sister's scan.
Regarding the treatment, it depends on the type of seizures, EEG registration, radiological examination, if another condition is found to cause the seizures.
The treatment's goal is to achieve a free-seizure status without or the least possible side effects.
Oxcarbazepine is a wellknown anticonvulsant and i think it is a good choice. At the beginning of the medication doctor consultations may be frequent.
I hope i have been of help.
