Suggest Treatment For Fever And Rashes On Cheeks After Cutting Tooth

MY 15 month old grandaughter had a fever for 3 days now she has a rash on her cheeks and a small amount on chest. She also just cut her 1st tooth. We thought the fever and not feeling well was because of the tooth. Now I am wondering if she could have roseola. She had a measles shot last month, but does that cover roseola?

Hi..
Can understand your concern...

As per your complain fever and rashes in an infant while cutting or eruption of first tooth can occur as a result of "TEETHING".

Fever occurs due to inflammation in the gums during the teething process while rashes occurs on the cheeks, around the mouth and other parts of body like hands and chest due to drooling of excessive saliva and the different parts exposed to the saliva can get bacterial accumulation and rashes..

The best way to treat the fever and rashes is by giving Acetaminophen to the infant as well as maintaining dry and clean body surfaces by persistent wiping with a sterile cotton and applying baby cream..
Try to feed the baby with more of water and liquid to maintain hydration..

Roseola or Rose rash of infants is a viral infection caused by Human herpes virus 6 and 7 and is seen in children below 2 years of age and has a specific pattern in which there is fever for about 3 days followed by rashes occurring when the child starts recovering from fever starting from trunk and progressing to neck and face..
In this case also Acetaminophen is given to reduce fever as antiviral drugs are not effective in curing the disease..

But in your case teething seems to be the cause for fever and rashes..

I would suggest you to consult a Paediatrician and get clinically evaluated and treatment can be planned after proper diagnosis..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
