hi,

thank you for providing the brief history of your mother.

it is sad to hear that at the age of 84 all this pain and aches are troubling her. I see many geriatric cases and I can understand the discomfort they go through.

let's me come to the point now, as you mentioned that a couple of days ago your mom had a fall. you went to ER and took x-rays and CT scan and turned out to be normal. well did u took the x-ray and CT of the pelvic or the spine?

now let's see if I can be of help to her. Is she diabetic? if yes then avoid icing for her, also her pain level will be more due to the diabetes pathology.

incase if she is not diabetic then use icing but for short-term I would say 3-5 minutes. but gently stroking.

Also use of hot water fermentation will be of help to relax the spasmodic muscles.

as she is ageing she will have immense pain because in ageing there is a loss of muscle mass and loss of bone mineralization.

look ahead to meet your physician and discuss about physcial therapy. as you will be aware that physical therapy is a non invasive scientific approach. the physical therapist may use therapeutic ultrasound therapy and TENS therapy for the inflammation and pain. both will work good.

also if your mother is at conscious level than little free exercises will help her and built up strength. also look up for a diet supplement of milk for calcium and sunbaths for vitamin D. it is very important to go the natural way of helping the human body than using more medicines at this age.

if she is not helped by this than plan an MRI of spine and pelvic floor.

now let me tell a little about the ageing process.

In ageing the body tends to lose the muscle mass, weakens the bone, loses the cardiac endurance, malfunctioning metabolism, reduced immune system, reduced oxygen carrying capacity of blood cells, shallow respiration, less coordination, no balance, diminished vision, etc.

to overcome all this issues, generally exercises in various forms plays a big role. Exercises boost the metabolism, improves cardiac output, improves respiration and there by the oxygen carrying capacity of blood, stronger bones, confidence, etc.

with my patients at age 90 I make assure they don't fall, they do regular exercise, take proper diet, take proper rest, take regular minimal medicines.

I find lot of changes in 12-24 weeks of time. I know it's pretty more for old age to cope up such a long time for exercising but in old age the demand is more so the supply also has to be more. the muscle fibers built up the strength slow and loses the strength faster. to create the adaptation of the exercises one has to be put into regular regimen so the health stays at par.

now since your mom is 84, I will recommend that kindly look for a physical therapist who can come home and make your mom do exercise. transportation will consume a lot of energy of your mother as she is aged and body in momentum will tend to lose more energy.

I wish your mom a good health and a speedy recovery. also I pray she becomes functionally active and enjoys the life.
