Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I carefully read your question and would explain that it is necessary performing further tests to investigate for the possible cause ( an infection, inflammation, etc.).
I would recommend performing these tests:
- a brain MRI study (as brain CT scan is a test performed easily in the ER but not the test of choice in
migraine)
- further blood lab tests (
complete blood count for anemia, PCR, sedimentation rate for inflammation, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose).
An abdominal
ultrasound for her ovaries would help exclude possible hormonal disorders, which are known to trigger migraine.
Meanwhile, I would recommend avoiding all the possible trigger factors for migraine (
sleep deprivation,
dehydration, certain foods ) and avoid straining physical activities.
You should discuss with her doctor on these issues and on the possibility of starting a preventive therapy for migraine (betablockers, antidepressants, anticonvulsivants, calcium channel blockers, etc.).
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Aida
