General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I am sorry to hear about the recurrence of seizures in your child in spite of the medications. These are breakthrough seizures and can be due to various reasons. Foremost of them is his compliance with medications. You must witness him daily taking his medications. In spite of that if it has happened, it might be brought about due to any stressor; emotional or physical or due to any infection. At other times some medications given for flu etc., like antihistamines can lower the seizure threshold which can then cause a breakthrough seizure. You might also want to get the serum levels of his drugs just to make sure that they are at an adequate level. You should certainly discuss it with your physician before making any decision.
