Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Prostrate Inspite Of Normal Bladder

Hi I am 66 year old male . I recently had a cystoscope done and I was told my bladder was good. However my prostrate was enlarged. He said it would subside. Today again when I pee the blood pours out. Today when I was sitting it felt like the front of my pant was wet. I went i the restroom and i had blood on my underwear. I am concerned more than ever and so is my wife. A friend of mine said he had the same symptoms and they did the cysto the missed his cancer. Finally the did some sort of cat scan and they found cancer. What is your professional opinion. Concerned

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I understand your concerns and will explain what should be done:

Your doctor that performed the cystoscopy told you that you have an enlarged prostate, and the symptoms that you have correlate with this diagnosis.

Now,before deciding if a patient needs treatement with meds or surgery, other tests need to be done.

-ultrasound of your urinary tract and the prostate
-PSA (specific blood test for prostate)
-digital rectym exam (performed by a urologyst)

The only way to be sure if its cancer or not is doing a biopsy. Usually it is performed trans rectal.

So i suggest you check up with your urologyst and do the tests that I recomended (the urologyst of course will ask those tests too,and probably other tests). Than he will decide depending from the results if you need med treatement, surgery with TUR-P (transurethral resection prostate) and do the biopsy after it, or do the biopsi trans rectal and than decide what is the best option.

If you have any other question, feel free to ask me.
