Suggest Treatment For Emotional Outbursts, Mood Swings And Panic Attacks

It's been 10 months since I got married & the marriage has been really rough. There has been physical abuse & verbal abuse but he stopped it last month. Now my hubby seems to have resorted to emotional abuse. He doesn't give me peace. He keeps hurting me by saying demoralizing stuff or hurtful stuff. Eg: You are 'incapable'. you shouldn't have got married etc.

When he says things like this, i get really violent & hysterical. I shout. scream. cry. at times, even harm myself. I am not able to overcome this. He simply watches me or hurts me more when I do this. What should i do to overcome this emotional outburst?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related doubts

I can understand your concern. The symptoms like emotional outbursts, mood swings, panic attacks, violent and abusive spells, ideas of self harm etc could be occurring due to depression. But since your relation with husband is not good and there are continuous fights with husband so most likely these symptoms are result of repetitive familial stress and most likely Adjustment Disorder with depressive symptoms.

Try to remain relaxed. If your husband agrees then visit a relationship counsellor for sorting out the issues. Visit a psychiatrist for severe restlessness. Medicines like SSRIs like Sertraline, Fluoxetine etc can help to reduce the depressive symptoms.

Thanks. Take care
