Suggest Treatment For Dry, Sore And Scaly Lips

Hi. My father is 90 years old and his bottom lip was very dry and sore so my sister bought him some lip balm to help. Today almost his whole bottom lip is discolored and infected looking and is causing him pain and discomfort. What can we do to help him?

Thanks for the query..

As per your complain it seems that the cause of dry,sore and scaly lips with pain seems to be due to most probably fungal infection of lips..

Consult a skin specialist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like microscopy of scraping from lip can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case of fungal infection antifungal ointment and Oral antifungal medication can be advised..
You can also do cool compresses over his lip to reduce inflammation and pain..
Apply petroleum jelly to soothe the lips..
Drink plenty of water and take multivitamin supplements..
