Suggest Treatment For Dry, Itchy And Pink Rash At The Base Of Penis

Hi I have a horrendously itchy crotch. Its a dry pink rash at the base of my penis, my entire scrotum and my inner thighs. Its a pin prick sharp itch, very intense. My inner thighs are stained brown by it, often the stain is slimey and utterly STINKS. I wash twice a day but iam prone to sweat. Ive tried every anti itch cream or 1% hydrocortisone creams i can buy and nothing works. My GP gave me a steroid cream that didnt work but that wont kill fungus right? When i scratch (lots!) a crust or sandy like substance comes of and theres lots of it. Ive lost most of my hair in this area due to persistant scratching. The only mild relief i get is to scald my groin in the shower and immediately cool it down. After it smarts for 15 mins there is a brief time of relief before the pin prick sharp itching starts again. Ive tried using folded womens sanitary towels for my inner thighs to some success however the itch remains. Please.. Im at the end of my rope with this.. Please help.. Point me to something industrial to kill this!! Thanx & respect S

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM.
From the symptoms you have mentioned it seems you have ‘jock itch’. It’s a fungal infection caused by tinea cruris fungus.
You are already applying steroid cream locally. But you also need to apply antifungal cream containing clotrimazole or miconazole which you can get in any pharmacy. It’s available in powder form too.
Powder form will help you keep it dry and reduce the moistness in that region.
Other precautions like keeping the region clean and dry should be taken. Also wash your inner clothes separately from other family members and your other clothes.
It will take around 2 weeks to treat.
If you have any more query kindly revert back with me.
Thank you
