Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough And Swelling In The Eye

Started taking hydrocodone for a dry cough tonight. Some swelling of one eye occurred after about an hour. I think this is a reaction to the medication. I don t think it is severe. What can I do to help rid my system of it? YYYY@YYYY

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is definitely possible that the swelling is related to the hydrocodone though systemically taken meds (eg not topical to nose, eyes, skin etc) normally cause a more wide spread reaction because they are in the blood stream.

A localized reaction is more likely with something applied directly to a particular area.

Unfortunately there is little to be done to cause the hydrocodone to break down or be excreted faster but you can take antihistamines to help with the allergic reaction.
These would be over the counter medications such as benadryl, claritine, allegra or zyrtec

One of these should reduce the swelling.

I hope this helps
