Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Breathing And Sore Throat

Was placed on .75mcg generic Synthroid two weeks ago. Last night had difficulty breathing and very sore throat. My Dr.not available today. Saw a newly hired Dr. today. She said it could not be the new meds. Said my throat did not looked irritated and breathing was probably due to allergy . Gave me a prescription for Prednisone to begin tomorrow. Throat still very sore. Am I in good Hands?

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query difficulty in breathing and sore throat is due to upper respiratory tract infection known as pharyngitis. Symptoms can also occur due to inflammation in tongue , viral pharyngitis or tonsillitis. I would suggest you to take antibiotics like Augmentin or Azithromycin for 5 days. You should take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen for relief from pain and inflammation. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily. Do warm saline gargles. Gargle with an antimicrobial mouthwash. Avoid spicy, hot and sharp food substances. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Sip on warm water. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Visit ENT specialist once and get throat culture and sputum test done to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
