Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea When Suffering From Celiac Disease

I have celiac disease, but even on a gluten free diet, I have daily afternoon diarrhea. currently, I control it by taking 6 2mg loperamide hydrochloride tablets per day. Are the generic versions of these pills gluten-free? I get them at Sams under the Simply Right brand.

Hello,

If you are having symptoms like diarrhea even with gluten free diet, it means your celiac disease is refractory. Refractory celiac disease is to be treated by corticosteroids. You can start by taking 20 mg tab. Prednisolone once daily for 2 weeks and then taper very slowly like 10 mg/ day for 1 week and 5mg / day for 4 days. Loperamide can also be taken. But I don't know if the pills are gluten free. Please follow a strict gluten free diet.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
