Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Pancreatitis

I am recovering from pancreatitis..2yrs in June...getting much better at digesting food and much less diarrhea but when I do have a bowel movement it has mucus and smells like perm solution? Is this normal for my pancreas problems or could it be something else? I feel like I m pestering the doctor over and over and they fob me off!

Hello,

Pancreatic enzyme deficiency can cause loose stools.

As first-line management, you can take antimotility drugs like racecadotril and pancreatic enzymes like panzynorm for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
