Hi,

Thank you for asking about your relative. First treat this as emergency. Diarrhea vomiting cause dehydration very fast in elderly leading to renal failure which is more complicated. Give her a lot of fluid and take her to hospital to be given fluid intravenously. This may be food poisoning so antibiotic cover is necessary. Does she have temperature?

Tests to do:

- stool: look for bacterial infection
- Kidneys tests
- UECs
- Full haemogram check if white blood cells are raised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
