Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

She is having acute gastroenteritis. I guess she is not having fever, and the stool is not blood stained. Just give her ORS solution (around 10ml / kg after each stools, in small frequent sips) and syrup zinc sulfate for 14 days (2.5ml once a day if she is below 6 months and 5ml otherwise). In such cases, I used to give a probiotic also for 5 days. If not getting well in 2-3 days, we may need an antibiotic too.

meanwhile avoid sugary items, fruits and juices till recovery, this can increase diarrhoea. If she develops drowsiness, lethargy, poor feeding or passing little urine, see your doctor immediately, this suggest dehydration. I also suggest you to stop lopiramide immediately, not at all recommended for children.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
