Hello thanks for asking from HCM

The symptoms like not talking to family members (poor social interaction), remaining alone along with quitting job can occur due to depressive episode, but diagnosis of depression can't be made by mere presence of these symptoms. He also have work related problems and this could be a reason for his symptoms. Adjustment disorder with depressive symptoms is common occurrence in work places. I would advise you to take help from a psychiatrist to confirm his diagnosis and for treatment.

Talk to your husband and try to find out any underlying problem. Depressive symptoms are treatable with medicines like SSRIs or SNRIs. Commonly used medicines in depression are Sertraline, Duloxetine, Paroxetine, Mirtazapine etc. These medicines help to improve the symptoms of depression and also improve negative thoughts. These medicines are safe to use and don't make individual dependent. You can consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Cognitive therapy, counselling by a psychologist should also help him in coming out of these symptoms. Cognitive therapy helps to correct abnormal thoughts and cognitive distortions. Psychological methods along with medicines give best results in depression.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
