Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

He has lost his job and this falls in significant life event. He has started remaining confused, he has belief that friends are ignoring him or rejection sensitivity, he has lost the weight and he is not getting enough sleep. These symptoms can label him as suffering from depression, but detailed evaluation by a psychiatrist is needed to confirm diagnosis. The symptoms of depression can occur due to adjustment disorder post loss of job.

Consult a psychiatrist as early as possible for his complete treatment. Antidepressants like SSRIs as fluoxetine, escitalopram will help in improving depressive symptoms. Talk to him and try to motivate him if possible. Proper family support at home will result in early recovery.

Thanks, hope this helps you
