I had suffered from depression.I was on medicines, such as,Depsonil,Trazolon,Surlift,Venlor,Fludac and Mirtaz for a long time.Initially Depsonil showed some improvement and then Mirtaz 15 and 30 also showed improvement.I stoped taking Mirtaz as I have cholestrol problem.Since last 16 years I have stopped taking these depression medicines. Now I take only Oliza 5 at night according to my physicians prescrition. Also at present I dont have any major depression problem. But I still have problems with concentration and focus. Moreover lot of thoughts wander in my mind. Please suggest medicine, preferably for one time keeping in view my cholestrol is high.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Depression and cholesterol are two different entities. I am glad to see that over all your depression is improved. Although anti depressant drugs has some side effects like weight gain, but it has no interference with blood cholesterol. Drugs like Mirtazapine and olanzapine has insignificant impact on cholesterol.

I would also suggest you to maintain your diet and proper exercise for your cholesterol, which will also help in reducing your depression too. At last you should consult a psychiatrist for your depression who can prescribe you medicine that us best suited for your condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
