Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have depressive symptoms like repetitive frustration, sleeping problems, lack of inspiration or motivation, poor occupational functioning etc. You are addicted to anti-tussive syrup. There are ideas of suicide also. Such depressive symptoms along with suicidal ideation should not be ignored and need proper evaluation. Suicidal ideas are the features of severe depression.

For treatment of depressive symptoms medicines like SSRIs as Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Paroxetine etc are used. These medicines helps to reduce the symptoms of depression and result in improvement in mood. For addiction of cough syrup treatment of opioid dependence should be considered. Most of cough suppressants consists of opioids and these are having strong dependence potential. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs and treatment.

Thanks, hope this helps you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

The symptoms you have mentioned like depressed mood, frustration, altered sleep habits, poor inspiration and lack of motivation, loss of job etc are symptoms of depression only. Thoughts of suicide classifies it into severe depression. You are also addicted to anti-tussive syrup (most likely opioid addiction). Addiction to cough syrup also increases risk of depressive symptoms. I would advise you to take help of a trained psychiatrist for your symptoms and these symptoms should not be ignored.

To quit cough syrup replacement of opioid drug by some other partial opioid agonist is usually done. Buprenorphine, Methadone etc are commonly used. Drugs like Clonidine, Guanfenacine etc are utilised to reduce anxiety associated with opioid withdrawal. Once you become drug free maintenance with anticraving drugs can be done. Quitting drug will increase motivation in you and you will be free of guilt. This will make treatment of depression easier. For depression antidepressants like SSRIs prove useful in your case. Consult a psychiatrist for proper prescription of drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
