Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of individuals in elderly age develop delusional disorder which usually occur due to dementia or sometimes also due to some psychotic illness. His behaviour like abusing your mother in law, having doubts on her etc can be explained by delusions but still detailed evaluation is needed to make proper diagnosis. I would advise you to take him to a psychiatrist for proper treatment. Medicines like antipsychotics as Olanzapie, Quetiapine etc can be used in such symptoms and will help in improvement. If he shows some symptoms of dementia then medicines like Donepezil, Memantin should be started in order to prevent any further deterioration. These medicines help to control abnormal psychotic symptoms with in a week if proper doses are given. Visit a psychiatrist for help.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
