Suggest Treatment For Dark Upper Lip

A month and a half ago, I used wax strips to remove the hair from my upper lip - it burned and was red for two days and then began to scab. After the scab fell off, I was left with a dark upper lip. I have read about various treatments for what I hope is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, but being a darker individual I am afraid of further hyperpigmentation from hydroquinone or acid peels. I have been exfoliating naturally and using Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E. Will this go away on its own? How long will it take? Should I go to a dermatologist?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern.

Dark patch on skin of upper lip as per your query could be because of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in which some part of skin becomes darker than other areas of skin. These areas of hyper pigmentation occur due to excessive production of melanin in cells called melanocytes. After waxing ,lips got traumatised, which caused irritation to delicate skin and caused darkening of lips.

I would suggest to avoid waxing of upper lips for few days . Avoid exposure to sun rays and if she has to go out side cover her face. Apply kojivit cream twice a day after washing your face . Hydroquinone is quite effective as it blocks natural melanin formation. Use TAN CARE or sunscreen rich in SPF 30 while exposure to sun .

Combination of cucumber and lemon juice is very effective natural treatment remedy. Your symptoms will start resolving in 7-10 days.

If your symptoms keeps on persisting then visit dermatologist for this, as then more intensive treatment like micro abrasion, laser therapy can be considered as treatment option.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
