Suggest Treatment For Dark Coloration Of Toenails After Injury

Hello, A week ago I banged my large toenail onto a wall. For the first few days nothing seemed wrong but it was a slight bit loose (you can push down a little bit). Then, it turned kinda dark underneath but there is no blood. The part I am most worried about is that around the time it turned that color it also had these small white clumps underneath which I picked out with a toothpick carefully although I couldn t go that deep, and also there was a sometimes pink sometimes yellowish fluid that squeezed out. Since then it doesn t have as much liquid and I haven t seen any of the white stuff but some of the liquid I think is still there because my sock can stick to it a bit. Now I have noticed it smells a little weird and seems that there is a hard layer of that liquid but dried up under my nail. It doesn t look messy, just a thin layer. I hope I don t have a fungus though, since that would be bad. Thank you

Thank you for using HCM

What you may be having is a subungual hematoma with secondary infection. You need to take a course of antibiotic such as cefpodoxime 200 mg twice a day for 5 days. That will resolve the infection. The blackish colour will take some time to go about 3-4 months so you just need to be patient for that.
