Hi I have been on Alendronic Acid for 12 years with 2 one year breaks during that tie. My dentist has advised that one of my teeth has a large crack right through it and that although the toothh is alive, as I am experiencing discomfort he is unable to extract the tooth. Please can you help, as I ca't put up with this discomfort without treatment. A filling has been unsatisfactory

Hi.
Welcome to HCM

As per your complain Alendronic acid is used to treat Osteoporosis and conditions like Osteogenesis Imperfecta that are bony disorders and although this medication help in reducing the progress of disease but increases the chances of osteonecrosis of jaw..

Therefore, after proper examination and evaluation of bone density only extraction can be thought off..
In case if the tooth can be saved then root canal treatment of tooth followed by Post and Core Treatment and capping of tooth can help..

Filling will be unsatisfactory only as if the nerve is irritated due to exposure then if filling is done over it then it can cause increased pain and swelling..
So if tooth has to be saved root canal treatment is must..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
