Suggest Treatment For Constipation

I'm a healthy 23 yr old and have been constipated for 3 weeks now. I saw my PCP and she just gave me lactulase to drink that didn't help. My abdomen is distended and I have gained 4 lbs in these two weeks. I have tried everythng and nothing produces a BM.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If this is Constipation, then you should try to relieve with diet changed like try to have more fiber containing diet, drink plenty of water, and keep the regular habit of going for defecation even in the absence of need of this.

Do not exert the force at the time of defecation, but sit there no matter if you do not pass the stool.

You can try the stool softener Isabgol powder, avoid taking oily, fat-containing food, avoid heavy meal, and irregular eating habit. The weight gain may not be due to constipation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
