Suggest Treatment For Constant Pressure Feeling In Abdomen While Treating Alzheimer S Disease
My mother-in-law has Alzheimers and complains about constantly feeling like she is going to burst, but we were just told that her bladder is not functioning at all. She is currently in rehab for broken cervical bones and already has a catheter but still complains about the bursting feeling but when she get in the bathroom has no idea what she can do to stop the pressure. What if anything can we do tho get this under control?
I am sorry your mother in law is going through this. Its possible that her cervical injury is causing something known as a neurogenic bladder. This means her bladder doesn't understand that it is filling up with urine. The treatment is to intermittently catheterize her bladder at regular intervals to prevent build up of urine. Depending on the nature of the injury this may or may not improve. Other differentials are urge incontinence or a UTI causing the feeling of urgency and pressure in the abdomen --> Undergo a urine test and an ultrasound.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
