Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

As you have already discovered, the problem with ptosis is that vision in that eye can be affected if the lower margin of the upper eyelid covers part of the pupil. If the entire pupil can be seen, then there is no effect on the vision of that eye.

If his vision is not affected, then surgery to elevate the lid is done to improve appearance.
Children with multiple problems are best followed at a university medical center where they can be fully evaluated, advised on treatment, and seen repeatedly over time.

This type of center will have all of the specialists who are properly trained in helping a patient such as your son’s pediatric neurologists, developmental pediatricians, speech and language pathologists, social worker, lung specialist(if he is still having a breathing problem).

If you can find a place like this, it will better for him in the long-term. Should this not be available to you, try to have him seem by at least one or two of these specialists. And have him followed, not seen just one time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd
