Hi. If your ear has been paining for six months and three months of medications has not helped then you definitely need a re-evaluation since most ear pains go away in a few weeks. Since the pain that you describe is continuous and it worsens on touching the ear, this points to an outer ear infection. The long standing nature is more suggestive of cartilage involvement such as in perichondritis. This can also explain the long standing nature of the disease since cartilages have poor blood supply and medications do not reach there easily. I would suggest that you see an ENT specialist and have your ear examined once again. If a hearing test (Pure Tone Audiogram) has not yet been done then please get it done as the type of hearing loss and the amount of hearing loss can point to the cause of the hearing loss. If it is perichondritis, you may need IV medications and localised medicated ear packing in your ear canal performed by an ENT specialist. Please do let me know if I can help you any further.
