Suggest Treatment For Colon Cancer

My wife, 76 years old, mother of four children, complained of pain in her stomch similar to ulcer. She was examined by a Gastro entrologist, but was later diagnosed for cancer of the colon. Doctors said there is a tumour blocking food and wastes in the colon that caused the pain. After eight Chemotherapy sessions and “Xeloda” tablets in between periods she is now relieved of all pains. But the Onclogist is not sure if Tumour is shrunk or not. No further tesst are done for this since she refused to take more pains on tests. Can we give her Cyclopam100? We used to give Ultracet for pains but this created adverse reactions. So Started giving Talinol along with PAND and Ondem before food. Acidity and gas in stomach reduces appetite. Endice is being given to create appetite. Please advise if Cyclopam as pain killer can be given.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I am really sorry to hear about your wife's disease. It can be difficult for the patient and their family members to deal with the pain and it can effect the whole family.

Ideally Cyclopam (dicyclomine) is given in irritable bowel syndrome. It is not very effective in managing pain related to colon cancer. It would be best if your wife would involve a Pain Physician in her care. Pain physicians are trained in dealing with such kind of pain while minimizing the side effects in an efficient manner and can make the patient much more comfortable.

I hope that this helps. Please feel free if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,
Dr. Waqas Hayat
