Suggest Treatment For Cold Sore On Lower Lip

Hello,

Two nights ago a cold sore popped up on the bottom right of my lip. It caused 5 little 'bumps' in total, one very close to the crease. I immediately put on a bit of Abreva cold sore cream. In the morning, the bumps didnt seam to diminish NOR worsen. I then treated the area with an Abreva Single Dose (numbing and treating liquid). That was yesterday morning. Between then and this afternoon I have developed a horrible bruise! The actually bumps seam to be slowly diminishing but now I have an odd bruise that even seems to line my nerves. I have normal sense on the bruise, I can smile the same, everthing seems normal but somehow I find myself extremely worried about this bruise because it seems to be deep and line what looks like my nerves. In that same area I pierced my own lip as a young teen and worry that this is somehow related.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain cold sores are caused by HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 1 and it leads to formation of clusters of sores commonly over the lips..
One thing I would like to inform you that antiviral medications cannot cure the active herpes infection and can only control the frequency of recurring episodes.
Abreva is a non prescription medication and will not sure the cold sores once they erupted..

Nothing to worry as the viral infection runs its course and the cold sores will resolve in a period of maximum 2 weeks time or even less..
The bruise that you are experiencing is due to inflammation caused by infection and as the sores will heal the bruise will also fade gradually..

As of now you can apply antiviral ointments containing Valacyclovir[valtrex] and take a course of antiviral oral medication after consulting your local dermatologist..

Avoid making intimate contact with any one as you are at a contagious stage right now..
Keep your personal belongings like towels , napkins and even utensils unshared to prevent transmission of infection..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
