Suggest Treatment For Chronic Urticaria In The Elderly
Hi I am 58 years old with painful skin condition. Red prickly skin on arms, legs and neck. Was much more severe but is now getting worse again. I take telfast x 2 in morning Zyrtec x2 at night plus Zantac 24 her tablet in morning. Ceased Crestor. Swapped from covertly to micardis. Take Premarin. I have just started placqinel and expect to take it for a year. Dermatologist says it is chronic urticaria Cortisone helps but is not sustainable. All underlying disease has been checked. No other issues. What else can I try. Is micardis the best option for blood pressure in urticaria? This is starting to cause me a great deal of distress. I have suffered this for almost a year now. Thank you
Hi. As per your case history of chronic urticaria, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors. 2. Don't take any medication without consulting a doctor as it may worsen the condition. 3. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region. 4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 3 months. 5. Other treatment options are oral colchicine, low dose propranolol, oral azathioprine, cyclosporine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
